Breakwater 233 – Hovde Properties
Breakwater 233 Apartments, a 202-unit apartment building to be constructed at 233 Lake Avenue in the City of Racine, Wisconsin.
Hovde Properties, a Madison-based developer, is constructing a six-story building consisting of ground-floor parking and five levels of living space. A planned green space will connect the building to the lakefront. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
This site was acquired from We Energies in 2015. It once held the former Wisconsin Natural Gas Co. office building. Following environmental cleanup, the site was put on the market for redevelopment.
Avenue North and Avenue West – J Jeffers Company
Avenue North and Avenue West at Belle City Square in the 2200 Block of Northwestern Avenue in the City of Racine, Wisconsin, are new 5-story apartment buildings with garage parking and 83 and 84 units respectively. The buildings consist of a mix of studios, one, two-, and three-bedroom options, which are leased at market rate. Avenue North is currently leasing and Avenue West is opening for leasing in October of 2023.
Each building features a Resident’s Lobby Lounge with an adjacent Conference Room, Dog Wash, indoor bike storage, and Mailroom on the ground floor. Rooftop Patios overlook the native plantings, green space and historic buildings; each of the new buildings offers a Top floor Club Room, and environments that are set for socializing or working from home.
This site was home to the Horlick Malted Milk Company from 1873 when the historical buildings were originally constructed, until the plant closed in 1975. In 2019 J Jeffers and Company began the transformation of the campus into what is now known as Belle City Square.
